can. the law has a bright line. it says if you engage in a wongful action, there is a defense called the insanity defense which never works as most of us know because we don't recognize it. should we recognize it, that's an interesting question. should we have a more robust concept of diminished responsibility in light of the understanding that some people have less control over their preferences and desires or should we have better sentencing schemes or get rid of incarceration and come up with different models of trying to deal with punishment once we understand people have wrong selections. i think those are all interesting questions, but is there free will? well, the fact that almost everybody in the audience raised either their right or left hand contemplated it and were quickly able to act and respond. that to me says, yes, there is. now what do we want to do about it? now that we understand that those of us in the audience or up here that like chocolate cake may not have control over it, how do we want to account for that if at all in the criminal justice system? to date, we h

, basically, with the va and with the department of defense pledges to do whatever it can to support the psychological health of this population. so, samhsa has taken on the military service members, veterans, and their families as an initiative to focus specifically on the behavioral health issues for this population. and to insure that any individual who needs it has access to appropriate behavioral health services. and those services are what are considered to be evidenced-based practices that are focused on recovery. that includes the center for trauma? that is correct. and we have, we have a variety of resources with-in samhsa, we have a trauma initiative, we have, um, the center for trauma-informed care, we have, um, a focus on a, making sure that what we call recovery-oriented services are available through our community providers and through the states. so, samhsa is not, um, getting in the way either va or dod doing their appropriate mission. but we are partners with them in the sense that both state authorities and behavioral health and community service agencies are understand

spending cuts? is it defense cuts? is it health care cuts? where are those cuts going to come pro? >> we've already made some cuts in defense. obviously with sequestration there is a lot more. i think sequestration is not the way to go. we could do a better job prioritizing. they will come out of a lot of areas. agriculture, we put together a farm bill that cuts 23 to 35 billion. you put that in the mix. again we have to go through all aspects of government to figure out where we can save and at the same time we've got to reform entitlement programs to make sure they're is vent for the long term the those ideas have been put forward. we have to come together on a package and do it. adam: this is simple yes or no, senator before i let you go. are you here monday night talking to us about how we go over the cliff or do we get a resolution, yes or no? >> yes, i think there is chance we will be. the house is coming back. that's a good sign. let's get everybody here. let's get after it. adam: senator john hoeven, one of the most popular governors when you were governor of your state. thanks very

-second deal. hit the defense department. but the pentagon's real problem is not those cuts, but the ones that are going to be coming over the next decade. we talked to military contractors, top officials at the pentagon. they see a long period of downward decline. that after the war in afghanistan, there's going to be a period of austerity. they're calling it -- they have a term around the pentagon, a very graphic self-amputation as they cut back over the years. and this was one of the reasons that president obama had, at the top of his short list, the former republican senator, still a republican, chuck hagel of nebraska. he's somebody who's talked about the pentagon as being bloated, had very specific ideas about how to cut it. but mike, sam, the table, we're hearing that that trial balloon has been popped. that senator hagel has a possibility for secretary of defense, has really lost a lot of altitude. and what they discovered was, there's not a natural constituency for him. republicans, as you guys know, have fought with him over the years. he was against the war in iraq. senato

talk eed about defense. we talked about retail. but if we look at what we have to kind of give back, if we look at the s&p 500, that hit a resistance level at 1460. we had a rally, about 34% rally from october 11 to october 2012. we look at the nasdaq, during that same time period, that went up about 38% and, again, we've had a resistance level at about $31.50 there. looking at smaller cap stocks, the russell 2000. again, a 44% rally from october '11 to october '12. and we have resistance there, about 850. if we take those rally levels and we assume about a 38.2%, what we call a retracement, in technical analysis, you get to levels such as 1330 for the s&p 500 as correction territory. >> okay, so, you can cherry pick larry's comments, but the other comment was that we've got massive liquidity coming in. it's not just don't fight the felt. it's don't fight the bank of tokyo, don't fight the chinese refer make, it's going to continue to put money in, don't fight the ecb and don't fight the fed. so, with that title throw of liquidity coming in, it's not about where the stocks have come
